About
One of my earliest memories is the fragrance of my grandma's daily skin lotion. Over twenty-five years later, I still use the same lotion that she did. It reminds me of her every morning and puts a smile on my face.
My interest for aromatherapy started early. I studied to become a midwife in my home country Switzerland and gained a few years of work experience. When we moved to Canada in 2017, I was a stay at home mom and finally had time to follow my passion. I already used essential oils during my work as a midwife. They are great for support through the pregnancy, during labour, and postpartum. I love to use essential oils at home for my whole family. They support me through rough and stressful days with my children, help my children to find better sleep at night, calm them down during tantrums, and to relieve painful teething.
Since December 2018 I am a certified aromatherapist and eligible to perform aroma massage.
In May 2021, my family and I moved to Sweden. I am currently working as a midwife at Östra Sjukhuset in Gothenburg. In the fall 2023 a beautiful collaboration started with Herbalist of Aspen, which produces wonderful skin products by herself.
Aromatherapy
5000 years ago the Egyptians used plants in medicine, cosmetics and massage. They perfected the art of aromatherapy and many other nations followed them. The Romans loved to use essential oils in baths and for massages. Scented oils, powdered perfumes, and solid perfumes were popular in use. The expression 'aromatherapy' was coined in 1928 by René-Maurice Gattefossé, a French chemist who worked in a perfumery. Nowadays aromatherapy is used in different ways; for example, medical aromatherapy is practiced in France. Essential oils are prescribed by medically trained doctors and usually taken internally.
I am practising the holistic aromatherapy common in North America. Compared to the medical aromatherapy, the holistic approach does not recommend internal application and so do I! Furthermore, essential oils should not be used at home to treat serious medical or psychological problems. However, they are prefect for minor first aid cases and to prevent and relieve common discomforts such as skin disorders, muscle and joint pain, cold and coughs, and painful menstruation, just to name a few. There are many ways essential oils can be used and I offer the following services:
Services
Every service includes a custom-made blend of essential oils!
During the initial consultation we will discuss suitable methods of application depending on your needs and preferences.
‘What a pleasure it was to work with Sophie during the end of my pregnancy. She really listened to what I had to say about current physical and mental issues in pregnancy. Her approach seemed very thorough which lead to some great aromatherapy remedies. She was quick in bringing the tinctures and gave a detailed explanation on how to use each one. I highly recommend contacting her so she can help you out too.’
