The first 12 weeks are over - How do you feel?

In my last blog I discussed common problems in the first trimester. Most of the women feel better in the second trimester of her pregnancy; Morning sickness and vomiting are often over, as well as the dizziness and vertigo is better as the body has adjusted to the hormonal changes. Nevertheless there are women who still feel ongoing unwell.

Constipation

A common problem in the second trimester is constipation due to different eating habits, different amount of physical activity as well as the sheer pressure on our digestive system. Drink a lot of water or unsweetened drinks and eat dried fruits. Overnight soaked flaxseeds can also help. Patchouli and Lemon are the two Essential Oils that Worwood recommends. Blend them together and use them in a carrier oil. Apply a few drops and massage the lower back.

Cramps

Due to shortage of calcium and magnesium cramps are often experienced in pregnancy. The muscle spams are often felt in the feet and legs and are worse during nighttime. Footbathes can help to reduce cramps and have a relaxing effect on the entire body system. Marjoram sweet, Geranium and Lavender are great Essential Oils to use against cramps.

If the cramps are ongoing talk to your health care provider about supplementing of magnesium.

Stretch Marks

You never know if you get them or not - Essential Oils can be used as a prevention and they work great. For an everyday use I recommend to use a blend out of plain carrier oils. The following carrier oils are wonderful in preventing stretch marks: Sweet Almond oil, Wheatgerm Oil, Borage Seed Oil, Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, Roseship Seed Oil. You can use Essential Oils as an extra once a week. I recommend he following Essential Oils Geranium, Mandarin or Sandelwood, as they are marvelous for the skin and safe to use during the pregnancy.

To be sure to get the right and safe dilution I recommend to contact a certified aromatherapist. They can also supply you with carrier oils and different Essential Oils, so you do not have to buy a bunch of oils.

Not all women are lucky and some lose their pregnancy during the first 12 weeks. The fear of (another) miscarriage is often huge as miscarriages are common. About 1/3 of every women experience a miscarriage during the first three month. But as the pregnancy is often still a secret, women do not talk about it. That is one of the reason why I want to address these topic here. If you had a miscarriage do not hesitate to reach out for help. To lose a baby in whatever stage of the pregnancy is a highly emotional experience for a women and her partner. Essential Oils can help to heal on an emotional level and can also support the body to get back to the prepregnancy state. Essential Oils with hormone balancing properties are often calming, soothing and grounding as well. Geranium, Rose Otto, Melissa, Ho wood, Frankincense, Jasmine or Neroli are just a selection of Essential Oils with these properties.

Use the Essential Oils in a bath additive, dilute them in a carrier oil or diffuse them. Another great way of application is the aroma massage; You receive a whole body treatment under professional care.

There will be no blog on December 17, due to our move to Switzerland.

I am looking forward to post my new blog about the use of Essential Oils in the third trimester as a possible preparation of birth on January 17, 2019.
